Sanju Samson Smashes Fiery Fifty in KCL

Indian opener Sanju Samson continued his red-hot form in the ongoing Kerala Cricket League (KCL) in Thiruvananthapuram. Representing Kochi Blue Tigers, he scored a quickfire 62 off 37 balls, including four boundaries and five sixes, against Trivandrum Royals on Thursday. His strike rate was an impressive 167.57.

Match Highlights

Samson’s innings, combined with V Manoharan (42 off 26 balls, nine fours) and Nikhil Thottath (45 off 35 balls, five fours and a six), propelled KBT to 191/5 in 20 overs. For Trivandrum, Abhijith Praveen V was the standout bowler with 3/26. Despite a solid 70 from Sanjeev Satheresan, Trivandrum fell short, scoring 182/6.

Earlier in the league, Samson produced spectacular performances:

  • Against Thrissur Titans, he scored 89 off 46 balls with nine sixes.
  • Against Aries Kollam Sailors, he hit a fiery 121 off 51 balls, helping chase 237.

Consistent Form

Samson has now amassed 285 runs in four matches, including a century and two fifties, at an average of 71.25 and a strike rate of 182. His consistent performances are a big boost ahead of the Asia Cup, where competition for spots in the playing XI is intense following the return of Shubman Gill and Jitesh Sharma.

In 42 T20I matches, Samson has scored 861 runs in 38 innings at an average of 25.38, with three centuries and two fifties. Since last year, he has thrived as an opener, scoring three centuries in five innings across series against Bangladesh and South Africa.

Asia Cup 2025 Outlook

India will start their campaign against the UAE on September 10, followed by a high-voltage clash with Pakistan on September 14 in Dubai. Their final group match against Oman is on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.

The Super 4 stage will follow the group matches. If India tops Group A, all Super 4 matches will be in Dubai; otherwise, one fixture will be in Abu Dhabi.
