India Women Begin World Cup Prep With Match Simulation in Vizag

India Women Start World Cup Prep in Vizag

The Indian women’s cricket team has stepped up its ODI World Cup 2025 preparations with an intensive training camp in Visakhapatnam, exactly a month before the tournament begins in India and Sri Lanka. The camp, which started on August 25, features all squad members, reserves, and India A players chosen for warm-up matches.

Focus on Batting & Match Scenarios

Head coach Amol Muzumdar, chasing India’s maiden ODI World Cup crown, emphasized the need for batters to spend quality time in the middle.

“What we want to really get is good batting time in the middle. For bowlers, field settings are very crucial, and we are working on that in these match simulations,” Muzumdar told BCCI.

In a video from the camp, Muzumdar urged players to trust their rhythm:

“All of us have our own way to find rhythm. Visualise yourself getting into that flow.”

Key Series Before the World Cup

Once the preparatory camp concludes, India will host Australia in a three-match ODI series, an important test ahead of the global event, scheduled from September 30 to November 2.

Venue Advantage in Vizag

Holding the camp in Visakhapatnam is a tactical decision, as India will play two crucial group-stage World Cup matches there — against South Africa on October 9 and Australia on October 12.

Past Records & Hopes

India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur with Smriti Mandhana as deputy, are still in search of their first Women’s World Cup trophy. Their best performances remain runner-up finishes in 2005 and 2017.

In the last edition (2022), India narrowly missed a knockout berth by just one point. With home advantage this time, the team is determined to go all the way and lift their maiden crown.
