CSK Holds Trials in Chennai Ahead of IPL Mini Auction, MS Dhoni Takes Active Role

CSK Holds Trials in Chennai Ahead of IPL Mini Auction

Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have kicked off preparations for the upcoming IPL mini auction with a five-day trial camp at their High Performance Center in Navalur, Chennai. Head coach Stephen Fleming and fielding coach Rajiv Kumar are supervising the sessions, while legendary former captain MS Dhoni is deeply involved, offering guidance and insights to the participating players.

Focus on Batting Reinforcements

The camp features 40-50 players, with the majority being batters. CSK is looking to address its batting concerns after two consecutive seasons of missing the playoffs. Reports indicate that the franchise is also eyeing an Indian batter who has recently fallen down the national pecking order, though it’s unclear if he is attending the trials. The sessions are set to conclude on Saturday.

Sanju Samson Transfer Speculations

There has been speculation about Sanju Samson moving from Rajasthan Royals (RR) to CSK ahead of the mini auction. While no official confirmation has been made, reports suggest the deal may not happen, with Samson likely entering the auction pool instead.

Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin explained why a trade seems unlikely: “CSK generally don’t believe in trading. They aren’t going to trade players like Ravindra Jadeja or Shivam Dube. RR wouldn’t gain much from such a deal, so Sanju moving to CSK appears unlikely.”

Samson started his IPL career with RR in 2013, spent a couple of seasons with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), returned to RR in 2018, and became their captain in 2021. Under his leadership, RR reached the IPL final in 2022, their first appearance since winning the inaugural season in 2008.

With this trial camp, CSK is taking proactive steps to rebuild a competitive squad for the next IPL season, aiming to reclaim their position among the league’s top contenders.
