Yashasvi Jaiswal Breaks Silence on Asia Cup Snub: ‘When My Time Comes…’

Yashasvi Jaiswal on Asia Cup Snub ‘When My Time Comes’

Left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has finally spoken about being left out of India’s squad for the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. Despite his impressive form in recent months, the youngster was overlooked by the selectors. Jaiswal admitted that such decisions are beyond his control and stressed that his focus remains on hard work and consistency.

“I don’t think about it. It is all in the hands of selectors. The decisions are taken according to the team combination. I will do whatever I can,” Jaiswal told Mashable India.

He added with quiet confidence:

“When my time comes, things will fall into place. I just want to keep working on myself and keep working hard.”

Controversy Around Selection

The squad announcement by chief selector Ajit Agarkar stirred debate. Shubman Gill returned to the side and was named vice-captain, while Sanju Samson moved lower down the batting order. Fans expressed disappointment over the exclusion of both Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer, questioning the selectors’ decision.

Consistent Performer

Jaiswal’s numbers underline his case. In 23 T20Is, he has scored 723 runs at an average of 36.15 with a blistering strike rate of 164.31. His IPL 2025 campaign was equally solid, amassing 559 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 159.71.

Strong Self-Belief

Despite the setback, Jaiswal insists his belief remains unshaken.

“I always had the belief that I would do something big. I will never stop. I will just keep working hard,” he said.

The young opener, who has already cemented his spot in India’s Test team, also reflected on his proudest moment—scoring a century in front of his parents on the England tour.

Eyeing Bigger Goals

Jaiswal revealed that his ultimate dream is to win a World Cup for India. Having already experienced the joy of India’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2024, he is determined to contribute to another historic victory.

“The T20 World Cup win in 2024 was truly special for me. We got such a good welcome in India when we came back home,” he recalled.

What’s Next?

Jaiswal will now turn his attention to the upcoming two-Test series against the West Indies, starting October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
