Bangladesh’s Asia Cup 2025 campaign has been thrown into uncertainty after captain Litton Das reportedly picked up a back injury during a practice session at the ICC Academy on September 22. According to Cricbuzz, Litton experienced discomfort on the left side of his waist while attempting a square cut. He was immediately attended to by team physio Bayzid ul Islam and left training early.
A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official later confirmed, “We will have a look at him today. From the outside, he looks okay, but we need to conduct a medical assessment before making a final call.”
Crucial Super Four Battle Against India
The timing of the injury could not be worse, with Bangladesh scheduled to face India in their Super Four clash on Wednesday, September 24. The Tigers, who struggled in the group stage, revived their campaign with a spirited win over Sri Lanka in their opening Super Four match.
Litton’s leadership and presence at the top of the order are vital for Bangladesh, particularly against a dominant Indian side that remains unbeaten in the tournament. To add to the concern, Bangladesh did not appoint a vice-captain for the event, leaving uncertainty over who would lead the team if Litton is ruled out.
Packed Schedule Adds Pressure
Bangladesh’s challenge doesn’t end with India. They are set to face Pakistan the very next day, meaning Litton’s absence—even for a short spell—could force major adjustments in both captaincy and the batting lineup. With India and Pakistan being the two toughest opponents, the Tigers must win at least one of these contests to keep their final hopes alive.
More clarity is expected once the team addresses the media in the pre-match press conference.
