Prasidh Krishna Suffers Head Injury Ahead of West Indies Test Squad Announcement

Prasidh Krishna Suffers Head Injury Before West Indies Test Selection

Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna suffered a head injury during India A’s first-class match against Australia A in Lucknow, just before the announcement of the West Indies Test squad. Krishna, who was batting at number seven, retired hurt after being struck on the head by Australian pacer Henry Thornton. Although he continued to bat for a few more overs, he was forced to leave the field after scoring 16 off 25 balls.

Incident Details

The incident occurred in the 39th over of India A’s innings. Following the blow to his head, Krishna underwent a concussion test, as per protocol. He managed to bat for just three more overs before walking off the field, cutting short a promising partnership with B Sai Sudharsan, who was well set at the crease.

“He looks fine at the moment. We are monitoring him, and a decision will be taken tomorrow,” a source from the team said, according to PTI.

Timing of the Injury

The injury comes at a critical time for Krishna, just hours before the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce the squad for the upcoming two-Test series against the West Indies. The first Test is set to begin on October 2 in Ahmedabad, with the second scheduled for October 10 in New Delhi.

Krishna’s Role in the Squad

Krishna was part of India’s squad for the England tour, where he made a significant impact, helping the team secure a 2-2 draw. While he may not be a guaranteed starter in the upcoming Test series, given India’s preference for spinners in home conditions, Krishna was considered a valuable backup option. With Jasprit Bumrah’s injury concerns and Akash Deep’s fitness uncertain, Krishna could have played an important role in the squad.

Disappointing Performance in India A Match

Despite being part of the India A squad, Krishna’s performance in the match against Australia A was disappointing. In the first innings, he bowled 17 overs, conceding 76 runs and taking just one wicket. Australia A posted a massive total of 420 runs in 97.2 overs, and India A was then reduced to just 194 in their reply. Krishna didn’t bowl during the third innings when India A made a comeback, with Siraj, Manav Suthar, and Gurnoor Brar taking one wicket each to reduce Australia A to 13/3.
