Teen batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi is rewriting record books and turning heads across the cricketing world. The young sensation’s meteoric rise has now led to calls for his immediate inclusion in the senior Indian team — with comparisons already being drawn to a young Sachin Tendulkar.
A Record-Breaking Journey at Just 14
At an age when most cricketers are still finding their feet in age-group cricket, Suryavanshi is already rubbing shoulders with seasoned professionals and making history.
After becoming the youngest player ever to sign an IPL contract, the Rajasthan Royals batter went on to smash records by becoming the youngest centurion in men’s T20 history.
His exploits haven’t stopped there. Since the end of the IPL, the 14-year-old has dominated tours of England and Australia with the India U19 side, piling up runs in all formats. Wherever he plays, fans line up for selfies, both in India and abroad — a sign of his growing stardom.
Grounded Despite Fame and Success
Despite his rapid rise, Suryavanshi remains remarkably humble. Former India cricketer Vikram Rathour, who has watched him closely at Rajasthan Royals, praised his maturity beyond years.
“He’s got a hundred in England, he’s got a hundred in Australia. And you see what he can do in T20 cricket (IPL). Outstanding for a kid so young,” Rathour told TimesofIndia.com.
“He is a prodigy. But the great thing about him is that he’s not flustered at all. It’s not that he scored his hundred and suddenly becomes a big name. Nothing has changed. He’s still so grounded and comfortable with everything happening around him. That’s a great quality to have,” he added.
‘Blood Him Into the Senior Team Like Sachin’
The calls for Suryavanshi’s promotion to the senior side are now growing louder. Zubin Bharucha, Director of High Performance at Rajasthan Royals, believes India must act quickly — just as they did with Sachin Tendulkar when he made his debut at 16.
“He should be blooded into the senior team immediately, like Sachin was all those years ago,” Bharucha urged.
“They have to blood this guy immediately, boss, because he is in another zone altogether. At least send him on an India A tour. I’m telling you, against this Australian attack bowling to India A, he would have scored a double hundred.”
