Jaiswal Joins Gavaskar & Gambhir in Elite List with Delhi Test Century

Jaiswal Joins Gavaskar & Gambhir with Delhi Ton

Yashasvi Jaiswal has entered an exclusive club of Indian openers by smashing a Test hundred at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. He became the ninth Indian opener to achieve this milestone after reaching his century in 145 balls on Day 1 of the second Test against the West Indies.

A Confident Knock from the Young Opener

Jaiswal reached the 100-run mark with a quick double off the first ball of the 51st over bowled by Khary Pierre. His innings was laced with 16 crisp boundaries, showcasing both control and aggression. This knock marks his seventh Test century since debuting in July 2023 — a remarkable feat for someone so young in his career.

Matching Legends at a Historic Venue

The 22-year-old now joins cricketing greats Sunil Gavaskar and Gautam Gambhir, who have also scored Test centuries at this iconic venue. Gavaskar stands out with three centuries as an opener at Arun Jaitley Stadium, while Gambhir remains the only Indian opener to have scored a double hundred here.

Jaiswal is also just the second Indian opener after Gavaskar to score a Test century against the West Indies at this ground. Gavaskar scored 120 in 1979 and 121 in 1983 against the Caribbean side.

Youngest Among the Greats

With seven Test hundreds before turning 24, Jaiswal has joined some of the game’s biggest names. Only Don Bradman (12), Sachin Tendulkar (11), and Garfield Sobers (9) have scored more at this age. Other legends like Javed Miandad, Graeme Smith, Alastair Cook, and Kane Williamson also reached seven hundreds before 24.

Strong Partnerships at the Top

Jaiswal gave India a solid platform by adding 58 runs for the opening wicket with KL Rahul (38 off 54) and later stitched a 150+ run stand with Sai Sudharsan, who remained unbeaten on 64. Their partnerships set the tone for India’s dominance on Day 1.

A Rising Star in Indian Cricket

This century isn’t just another milestone — it’s another statement from Jaiswal. In less than two years of international cricket, he’s already building a record that puts him alongside some of India’s greatest openers. And at just 22, the best is yet to come.
