KL Rahul Set to Shine Post-Kohli Era, Tipped to Outscore Shubman Gill

KL Rahul Tipped to Outscore Shubman Gill

KL Rahul is no longer just a support act. With Virat Kohli stepping away and Rohit Sharma retired, Rahul has been thrust into the spotlight—and he’s embracing it. Former England batter Owais Shah believes this is Rahul’s moment to shine. He sees the elegant right-hander as the most dependable batter in India’s current Test lineup, now free to lead without being overshadowed by Kohli.

So far, Rahul’s made a strong case. Back as an opener, he has already scored two centuries in the series and piled up 375 runs in six innings at an average of 62.50. More than the numbers, it’s the way he’s taken charge—anchoring the innings so others like Shubman Gill can play their natural game.

“This Is KL’s Time to Flourish” – Owais Shah

Speaking on the ‘Beard Before Wicket’ podcast, Shah said Rahul had long been in Kohli’s shadow, but things have changed.

“With Kohli at the crease, he was always the main man. Rahul stayed under the radar. But now, this is KL’s time to flourish,” Shah said. “This is the first series without Virat. Yes, Shubman Gill has surprised many, including me. But Rahul looks ready to take over.”

Shah suggested Rahul’s calm temperament and technical consistency make him a better long-term bet to lead the Indian batting unit.

Rahul Could Outscore Gill in the Coming Months

In a bold prediction, Shah said KL Rahul might well outscore Shubman Gill over the next 10 to 15 matches.

“I think KL is the best batsman in this lineup. He has the game and the mindset to deliver. And I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up outscoring Gill in the coming months,” he added.

Shah believes Rahul has both the skill and maturity to shoulder the expectations that once rested on Kohli.

Lord’s Century Adds to Rahul’s Growing Legacy

Rahul’s recent century at Lord’s wasn’t just a personal milestone—it earned him a rare spot on the honours board for the second time. Only one other Indian, Dilip Vengsarkar, has done that before. Yet, despite Rahul’s efforts, India lost the match and now trail 1-2 in the five-match Test series.

Still, if this is indeed KL Rahul’s breakout era, India might just have found their next great anchor—steady, stylish, and finally out of the shadows.
