Rishabh Pant’s exciting innings came to an abrupt halt on Day 1 of the ongoing Fourth Test between India and England, leaving fans disappointed after the India star was forced to retire hurt due to a right toe injury.
Pant had come to the crease following the dismissal of Shubman Gill and quickly found form, stitching together a crucial 72-run partnership with Sai Sudharsan. However, disaster struck in the 68th over when Pant attempted a reverse sweep. The ball deflected off the under-edge of his bat and struck his right toe, immediately causing him immense pain.
The medical team quickly attended to Pant, who was taken off the field for scans. On Sky Sports, England cricket legend Nasser Hussain expressed his concern, describing Pant’s injury as a “big blow” for India. He added, “It has been India’s day – except for the injury to Pant. Hopefully, he is okay. This game needs Pant, and the series has been blessed by having him in it.”
Stuart Broad Offers Well Wishes to Pant
Former cricketer Stuart Broad also shared his admiration for Pant, calling him “wonderful to watch.” Broad continued, “Pant has been brilliant for world cricket, and we hope he recovers quickly. The medical staff will be icing that swelling all night, and hopefully, it’s just a bruise, and he’ll be able to bat again.”
Pant was forced to retire hurt on 37* from 48 balls, having struck two fours and a six. India ended Day 1 at 264/4, with Pant’s contributions still a key factor in their solid start. Pant is the second-highest run-scorer of the series with 462 runs, including two centuries and four fifties. His injury follows a finger issue from the previous Test, which had seen him hand over the wicketkeeping gloves to Dhruv Jurel.
