Rishabh Pant, despite being ruled out of the remainder of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy due to a toe fracture, is reportedly willing to take painkillers and come out to bat if necessary, even though he’s currently unable to put pressure on his foot.
Pant was injured on Day 1 of the Manchester Test after inside-edging a reverse sweep onto his foot while batting at 37. The impact caused immediate swelling and bleeding, and the Indian vice-captain was visibly in pain. He had to be carried off the field in a golf-cart-like vehicle. After receiving treatment in the medical room, Pant underwent scans, which revealed a toe fracture, leading to him being advised rest.
Team Management’s Decision Pending
Though Pant has not traveled with the team to Old Trafford for Day 2, the Indian management is considering the possibility of him batting in the second innings if required. However, the final decision will be made after consulting with the medical team.
A source told Indian Express, “The scan report confirmed a fracture, and he has been ruled out for six weeks. The medical team is exploring whether he can bat again with painkillers, but he still needs support to walk, so the chances of him batting are slim.”
Pant’s Determination to Play Despite Injury
Pant is currently unable to put any pressure on his foot, as reported by Cricbuzz. “Right now, he’s unable to put pressure on his foot, as seen when he was carted off. But he’s determined, and knowing him, he might still try to bat. It all depends on the medical advice, not just his intent,” the source added.
Pant’s Road to Recovery and Future Plans
Earlier, Hindustan Times reported that Pant will be out of competitive cricket for at least six weeks. His next possible return could be in the West Indies home Test series in October 2025. If he’s not fit by then, he may join the ODI series against Australia in Australia.
This injury follows an earlier setback for Pant, who had taken a blow to his hand during the Lord’s Test but still batted and scored 74 runs in the first innings, despite not keeping wicket.
