India’s vice-captain and star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has finally spoken out after being ruled out of the remaining Test against England due to a foot fracture sustained during the Manchester Test.
The Injury That Ended His Series
The injury occurred on Day 1 of the match when Pant inside-edged a reverse sweep from Chris Woakes onto his right foot. Writhing in pain, he was helped off the field in a golf-cart-like vehicle. Scans later confirmed a fracture, and Pant was advised six weeks of rest.
Despite the injury, Pant showed immense grit. He returned to bat the next day and scored a brave half-century before falling to Jofra Archer. He was even ready to bat on the final day, though India didn’t need his services thanks to a resilient partnership between Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja.
Pant’s Statement on X
“Appreciate all the love and good wishes coming my way. It’s been a real source of strength. I will begin rehab once my fracture heals and I am slowly settling into the process. Staying patient, following the routines and giving it my 100%,” Pant posted.
“Playing for my country has always been the proudest moment of my life. Can’t wait to be back doing what I love,” he added.
Jagadeesan Named as Replacement
The BCCI confirmed Pant’s absence from the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, scheduled to begin July 31 at The Oval. In their official statement, the board said, “The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress, and the team wishes him a speedy recovery.”
Narayan Jagadeesan has been named as Pant’s replacement.
Pant’s Impressive Run in the Series
Before the injury, Pant was among India’s top performers, racking up 479 runs in seven innings. His twin centuries at Headingley set the tone for the series, and he followed it up with a gutsy 74 at Lord’s—even after taking a hit on the hand while keeping.
With England leading 2-1, India will head into the final Test without one of their biggest match-winners, hoping to level the series in his absence.
