Tendulkar Defends Jadeja and Sundar’s Actions During India vs England Test Series Controversy

Sachin Tendulkar Speaks Out on Jadeja & Sundar's Controversial

The India vs England Test series, which ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw, provided fans with unforgettable moments. One of the most controversial moments occurred on the final day of the fourth Test when Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar continued to bat after England’s Ben Stokes initiated the handshake protocol, signaling a possible draw.

Both players were on the verge of centuries, but instead of accepting a draw, they pushed on, determined to reach the milestone. Their actions sparked debate, with some questioning whether they were acting in the right spirit, while others felt that Stokes’ insistence on a handshake was unfair.

Tendulkar Criticizes Stokes’ Decision and Supports India’s Players

Sachin Tendulkar has now shared his views on the incident, defending the Indian duo. In a video posted on Reddit, Tendulkar sharply criticized Stokes’ approach to the situation, saying, “Washington scored a hundred, and Jadeja scored a hundred. Why is it not in the right spirit? They were playing for a draw.” He emphasized that the Indian players were not responsible for ensuring that England’s bowlers were rested ahead of the next Test.

Tendulkar continued, explaining that the series was far from over, and it was not the Indian team’s problem if England wanted to rest their bowlers. “The series was alive, so why should they go ahead (and shake hands) and give rest to England bowlers and fielders? If England wanted to hand the ball to Harry Brook, it was Ben Stokes‘ choice. It wasn’t India’s problem,” he said.

Tendulkar’s comments further showcase his belief in the Indian team’s resilience and their determination to fight for every run, regardless of external factors.
