West Indies Crush Pakistan to End 36-Year Home ODI Series Drought

Windies Crush Pakistan to Clinch First Home ODI Series Win

The hosts sealed the series 2-1 with a commanding all-round performance. Shai Hope’s unbeaten 120 guided West Indies to 294/6 before the bowlers bundled Pakistan out for just 92.

Pakistan’s Batting Collapse

Chasing 295, Pakistan crumbled under pressure. Captain Babar Azam poor form continued as he fell for nine runs, extending his century drought to 72 innings. Five batters — Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, Mohammad Rizwan, Hasan Ali, and Abrar Ahmed — registered ducks. Salman Ali Agha showed some resistance with 30 runs, but there were no partnerships strong enough to challenge the target.

Jayden Seales starred with the ball, taking 6 wickets for just 18 runs in 7.2 overs. Gudakesh Motie contributed with two, while Roston Chase added one more. The visitors were bowled out in just 29.2 overs.

Hope Leads from the Front

Earlier in the day, West Indies captain Shai Hope anchored the innings with a superb unbeaten knock of 120, hitting 10 fours and 5 sixes. Justin Greaves added late momentum with a quickfire 43 off 24 balls, helping the team push past the 290 mark.

“It was very important for us to go deep. You want to set the tone in the powerplay. I wanted to give the team the best finish as well,” Hope said. “We have struggled at times. We had 270–280 in mind. With wickets in hand, we wanted to capitalise. Justin came in and played well. Overall, it was a pretty complete game today. I am extremely proud.”

A Historic Win for West Indies

This victory marked West Indies’ first bilateral ODI series win over Pakistan since 1991 and their first at home since 1988. The result was a welcome boost for head coach Daren Sammy, especially after recent T20I series losses to Australia and Pakistan, as well as a heavy Test defeat to Australia.

Hope praised Seales’ bowling performance, saying, “Jayden is a quality bowler. I am more excited about his preparation. He is a class act. He can move the ball both ways and is bowling much better in white ball cricket.”

With this landmark win, West Indies now look ahead with renewed confidence, hoping it sparks a revival in Caribbean cricket.
