Ashwin Claims IPL Teams Overlooked His Tim David Tip, RCB Benefited

Ashwin Reveals IPL Teams Ignored Tim David Advice

Veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said he advised multiple IPL franchises to watch Tim David before the mega auction. However, they ignored his suggestion. Released by Mumbai Indians, David attracted little attention when his name came up at the auction. Royal Challengers Bengaluru seized the opportunity, signing him for just INR 3 crore — a price that now seems like a bargain.

Sunrisers Hyderabad began the bidding process but pulled out early, allowing RCB to land the hard-hitting Australian. David repaid their faith by delivering crucial cameos in the finisher’s role. He accumulated 187 runs at an average of 62.33 and a blistering strike rate of 185.15, proving his ability to perform under pressure.

Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, “I shouldn’t say this but I told the decision makers of a few IPL teams to pick him before the last auction. They all said, ‘No, his game has dropped off drastically’. I believe the future of T20 cricket is going to be having tall batters with long lovers and strong build. They are going to rule the roost if there are no changes brought to the wide line.”

Tim David’s Hot Streak in International Cricket

The 29-year-old has been in superb form for Australia this year, smashing 265 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 212.00. His highlight came against West Indies, where he scored his maiden T20I century. Recognising his destructive batting, the Australian team management has moved him up the order to maximise his influence.

Ashwin praised RCB’s decision to back David. He remarked, “RCB picked up a player at base price (INR 3 crore), and he has taken his game to the next level.” It’s good to see Australia sending him up the order. A real steal for RCB.”
