Harshit Rana Confident Ahead of Asia Cup: “Not Out of Practice at All”

Harshit Rana Confident Ahead of Asia Cup

India pacer Harshit Rana is gearing up for the Asia Cup, starting September 9, with high confidence. The Delhi Premier League (DPL) has, according to him, provided ideal preparation, keeping him match-ready. Rana is particularly excited about playing alongside Jasprit Bumrah, even though India’s preferred pace trio currently features Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

Game Time in Delhi Premier League Keeps Rana Sharp

Rana, who briefly joined the Indian Test squad in England after the India A shadow tour, last represented India in the Champions Trophy in February, says his recent matches have kept him in top form.

“It is not at all that I have become out of practice. In the last 20–25 days, I have played 12–13 T20 matches. My practice is completely on because the DPL was going on, and before that, our team’s practice sessions were in full swing. So, it’s a plus for me that I am bowling well in matches and my overall performance has been good,” Rana told PTI Videos.

Excited to Share the Field with Bumrah

Rana expressed his excitement about playing alongside Jasprit Bumrah, who will be available for the full Asia Cup after managing his workload during England’s Test series.

“I can’t tell you what Jassi bhai brings to the table—playing with him is really special. He makes things easier for us, and if he’s around, the pressure on us is minimal. I try to stay calm; it’s always exciting to wear the India jersey. With the quality bowling unit we have right now, I aim to give my best every time without overthinking the outcome,” he said.

Asia Cup Playing Chances

Despite his confidence, Rana is unlikely to start in the Asia Cup, with Bumrah, Arshdeep, and Hardik being India’s preferred pace trio.

Rana has only one T20 appearance for India, making his debut as a concussion substitute against England in January 2025, where he impressed with 3 wickets for 33 runs.

In the IPL 2025, he played 13 matches, taking 15 wickets at an average of 29.86 with an economy rate above 10. These statistics have led to some debate over his selection in the Asia Cup squad.
