Abhishek Nayar Backs Virat Kohli to Bounce Back in Adelaide

Nayar Backs Kohli to Shine After Perth Duck

Abhishek Nayar has thrown his support behind Virat Kohli ahead of the second ODI against Australia at Adelaide Oval, backing the star batter to respond with the same passion and aggression that have defined his career.

Kohli, returning to international cricket after eight months, was dismissed for an eight-ball duck in the series opener in Perth — caught at point off a familiar outside-off drive against Mitchell Starc. His early wicket gave Australia the momentum, and they went on to secure a comfortable victory.

“He Knows How to Play in One Way Only”

Speaking on Star Sports, Nayar said he isn’t worried about Kohli’s form.

“Whatever time I have spent with him, he knows how to play in one way only — with passion and aggression. He will back himself. There will be a lot of discussions about him playing deliveries outside the off-stump,” Nayar said.

Nayar added that Kohli’s preparation style involves visualisation and intense focus, which he believes will help the veteran batter rediscover his rhythm in Adelaide.

Tactical Battle: Kohli vs Australia

Nayar also pointed out that Australia’s bowlers will target Kohli outside off-stump, mixing in the occasional short ball. But this is something Kohli has faced throughout his career.

“He will go back and visualise. He will meditate and come into his zone. I always believe that you don’t prepare for failure but for success,” Nayar added.

“Everyone knows — when Virat comes, the attempt will be to bowl back of a length outside off, with short balls in between.”

Match Context Will Be Key

Nayar also noted that the match situation will play a big role in Kohli’s approach.

“If Virat comes to bat after Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have scored 70 runs in the first 10 overs, the case is different. If he comes at the start, the case is different,” he explained.

With India needing a win to keep the series alive, Kohli’s innings at Adelaide Oval could be decisive — and Nayar is confident the former captain is ready to step up.
