Australia captain Alyssa Healy made a solid return from injury, scoring 27 off just 18 balls in Australia A’s 13-run win over India A in Queensland. It was her first competitive match in over six months. Her performance lifted spirits ahead of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which begins on September 30 in India and Sri Lanka.
Healy last played in February during the one-off Test against England at the MCG. Since then, she has been recovering from a knee injury. This T20 marked her first proper hit-out in months. She looked sharp in Mackay, striking five boundaries in her brief but impactful innings.
Healy on Her Return
Speaking to reporters after the game, Healy said she felt happy to be back.
“(I got) off to a good start … another disappointing dismissal, but that’s OK,” she said.
The 35-year-old admitted that while nets were useful, match time was crucial.
“I’ve done a lot of hitting in the nets, but haven’t had much time in the middle,” she said.
“It was nice to just get back out there. Hopefully, the decision-making will start kicking back in soon.”
Gradual Return to Full Fitness
Healy will play only as a batter in the remaining two T20Is against India A. She plans to return to wicketkeeping duties during the ODI series later this month in Brisbane. If her recovery stays on track, she will play a key role in Australia’s World Cup campaign.
“Throughout all the injuries, I was actually hitting the ball really well,” she said.
“I felt I was batting as well as I had in a long time. No technical changes were needed—just more time out there.”
“Decision-making is a big part of the game. You don’t really know if you’re making the right calls until you’re in the middle. That’s what these games are for.”
Key Boost Ahead of World Cup
With the Women’s World Cup just weeks away, Healy’s return is a major boost for Australia. Her leadership, experience, and powerful batting will be vital as the team looks to secure its eighth 50-over title.
