Arshdeep Singh ‘Got Impatient’ After Missing Out in England Tests, Says Coach Gagandeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh Got Impatient After England Snub Coach

Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh was expected to feature in the five-match Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy against England, but he didn’t get a single game. With Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj automatic picks, the team management opted for Prasidh Krishna as the third seamer. Arshdeep remained on the bench before eventually being sidelined with an injury ahead of the Manchester Test.

Coach Reveals Frustration

Punjab bowling coach Gagandeep Singh revealed that the 26-year-old was growing restless during the tour.

“When he was in England, I spoke to him. He was getting impatient because he wasn’t getting a chance. I told him to wait for his time. I think they should’ve played him in England because he’s a swing bowler, he’s tall, everything’s good,” Gagandeep told Times of India.

He also suggested that head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill might not have been fully confident in giving Arshdeep a debut.

Room for Improvement

Speaking about areas to work on, Gagandeep advised Arshdeep to sharpen his swing and accuracy while adding more variety to his bowling.

“He can be a better bowler with more swing and accuracy. From the recent matches I’ve seen, he needs to work on line, length, yorkers, and especially bouncers,” he added.

Arshdeep’s Career So Far

Arshdeep has played 21 first-class matches, taking 66 wickets at an average of 30.37, including two five-wicket hauls. Though yet to play a Test, he has already made a mark in limited-overs cricket.

The pacer is India’s leading T20I wicket-taker, with 99 wickets at 18.30 and best figures of 4/9. He has also been named in India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE, where he will partner Bumrah and Harshit Rana as the frontline pacers.
