The ongoing tension between the BCCI and PCB is set to escalate further, with reports suggesting that the Indian cricket board is preparing new charges against Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi during the ICC meeting in Dubai.
BCCI Compiles a List of Charges Against Naqvi
According to Telecom Asia Sport, the BCCI has compiled a detailed list of allegations questioning Mohsin Naqvi’s eligibility to simultaneously hold three key positions — PCB Chairman, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President, and Pakistan’s Interior Minister. The Indian board believes this violates ICC governance norms.
Although Naqvi’s attendance at the ICC meeting remains uncertain due to domestic political commitments, sources suggest that he may still attend if his Senate schedule allows.
Afghanistan Reportedly Backs India’s Stance
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is said to be supporting India’s position. Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan recently intensified after a military strike that claimed the lives of three Afghan cricketers, prompting Afghanistan to withdraw from a tri-series in Pakistan.
A source revealed, “Afghanistan will back India’s demand that Naqvi relinquish one of his posts, but Naqvi is unlikely to give in.”
Asia Cup Trophy Dispute Tops the Agenda
The Asia Cup trophy controversy is expected to be the focal point of the meeting. The trophy, still at the ACC headquarters in Dubai, was not handed over to the Indian team after their victory over Pakistan on September 28.
Reports claim Indian players refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, given his position in the Pakistan Senate. Naqvi allegedly left the venue with the trophy instead of delegating its presentation.
Despite multiple requests from the BCCI, Naqvi has not released the trophy, insisting he will personally present it. While he proposed a ceremony in Dubai on November 5, the BCCI rejected the idea and decided to escalate the matter at the ICC meeting.
Naqvi Readies His Defence
Sources close to the PCB stated that Naqvi acted within his rights as ACC President and has sought legal counsel to defend his position at the ICC.
The meeting, scheduled around November 7, is expected to be heated — especially with both the Asia Cup dispute and the dual-role controversy on the table.
