Former England captain Andrew Strauss has warned Ben Stokes to brace himself for the psychological battle that awaits him in Australia. As England prepare for a potentially legacy-defining five-Test Ashes tour, Strauss believes the Australians will make Stokes their prime target.

Strauss, who has endured his fair share of sledging on Australian soil, said Stokes’ emotional nature makes him vulnerable to Australia’s mental tactics.
“He’s got vulnerabilities. He’s an emotional guy, and Australia will try hard to get under his skin across the five Tests,” Strauss told Sky Sports.
He added that Stokes must show calmness under pressure, even if internally it becomes difficult to ignore the noise.

Strauss believes Stokes’ best weapon will always be his cricket.
“As captain, he has to absorb everything and appear unaffected. What he can do—and has done before—is respond with inspired performances. Some of England’s greatest moments have come from him.”
