Beth Mooney and Alana King Make History With Record 9th-Wicket Stand in Women’s ODIs

Mooney & King Break 9th-Wicket Record in WODIs

Australia’s Beth Mooney and Alana King etched their names into the record books with a sensational partnership during the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 clash against Pakistan in Colombo on Wednesday (October 8). The duo added a remarkable 106 runs from 97 balls for the ninth wicket, becoming the first-ever pair in women’s ODI history to post a 100-plus stand for the ninth wicket.

Historic Feat Shatters Previous Record

The previous record for the highest ninth-wicket partnership in Women’s ODIs belonged to Ashleigh Gardner and Kim Garth, who stitched together 77 runs against South Africa in North Sydney in February 2024. Mooney and King not only broke that mark but also set a new World Cup benchmark, surpassing the previous best of 66 runs by Kim Price and Yulandi van der Merwe for South Africa against India in 2000.

King played the perfect supporting role, remaining unbeaten on 51 off 49 balls, which included three fours and three sixes.

Their resilience not only rescued Australia from collapse but also created a historic chapter in women’s cricket.

For Pakistan, Nashra Sandhu was the standout bowler with 3/37 in 10 overs, while skipper Fatima Sana and Rameen Shamim claimed two wickets each.
