England have confirmed one change to their playing XI for the second Ashes Test at The Gabba, with spinning all-rounder Will Jacks replacing the injured Mark Wood. The match begins on Thursday, December 4.
Will Jacks Returns to Test Cricket After Three Years
Jacks, who last played a Test in 2022, was drafted into the squad on Tuesday and now steps back into the playing XI after a three-year gap. The 27-year-old made an impressive debut in Pakistan, where he claimed a maiden five-wicket haul, and his inclusion adds depth to England’s batting as well as their spin options.
He was preferred over Shoaib Bashir for the pink-ball Test, with England opting to move away from the all-pace attack that featured in their defeat in Perth.
Mark Wood Ruled Out Due to Injury
Mark Wood, who played the opening Test in Perth, was unavailable for selection after picking up an injury. His absence prompted England to rethink their balance for the marquee Gabba clash, leading to Jacks’ inclusion in the XI.
