Gouher Sultana Retires from All Forms of Cricket

India’s left-arm spinner Gouher Sultana has announced her retirement from all forms of cricket, closing the curtain on a career that saw her proudly represent the country in both ODIs and T20Is. Sharing the news on Instagram, Gouher wrote:

“Adieu with a smile — after years of wearing the Indian jersey with pride, passion, and purpose, the time has come to pen down the most emotional note of my cricketing journey. With a heart full of memories and eyes welled with gratitude, I announce my retirement.”

From Hyderabad Streets to World Stage

Reflecting on her path, Gouher said her rise from the dusty lanes of Hyderabad to representing India at the highest level was a dream filled with sacrifice and hard work. “To have represented India in World Cups, tours, and battles that tested both skill and spirit has been the greatest honour of my life,” she added.

Her International Record

In 50 ODIs, Gouher took 66 wickets at an average of 19.39 and an economy of 3.32, while also scoring 96 runs. In 37 T20Is, she claimed 29 wickets at an average of 26.27. Her last international appearance came in the 2014 Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.

Domestic and WPL Stints

At the domestic level, Gouher played for Hyderabad, Puducherry, Railways, and Bengal. She also featured in four matches for UP Warriorz across two Women’s Premier League seasons, though she couldn’t pick a wicket. Known for her accuracy, flight, and spin, she earned respect as a consistent performer.

Gratitude and Future Plans

Thanking her teammates, coaches, selectors, and family, Gouher said the game gave her both triumphs and heartbreaks but left her with no regrets. “Cricket will always be home. Though my career as a player ends, my love for the game burns brighter than ever. I look forward to inspiring and guiding future cricketers in new ways,” she concluded.
