Kohli Surpasses Sangakkara in ODI Run Charts

Virat Kohli added another golden chapter to his legendary career on Saturday (October 25), surpassing Kumar Sangakkara to become the second-highest run-scorer in ODI cricket history.

Kohli Breaks Sangakkara’s Record

While batting against Australia in the final ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Kohli reached 54 in the 32nd over*, taking his career tally to 14,235 runs in 305 matches. With that, he overtook Sangakkara’s 14,234 runs, achieved in 404 ODIs — 99 more games than Kohli.

Only his idol Sachin Tendulkar remains ahead with 18,426 runs in 463 matches.

Another Milestone in Chases

Kohli also went past Tendulkar’s record for the most 50+ scores in ODI chases, bringing up his 70th half-century. Known as one of the greatest chase masters in world cricket, Kohli continues to rewrite history with every innings.

As the crowd at the SCG erupted in applause, Kohli’s journey toward the top of the ODI run charts moved one step closer to the summit.
