The final day of the Lord’s Test between India and England witnessed an intense flare-up as Ravindra Jadeja and Brydon Carse were involved in a physical and verbal altercation just before lunch. The incident took place during the 35th over when Jadeja, while completing a quick second run, accidentally collided with Carse in the middle of the pitch.
Both players had their eyes on the ball, but the contact sparked immediate tension. Carse didn’t take the collision lightly and appeared to confront Jadeja with a few angry words.
Verbal Exchange Turns Physical; Stokes Steps In
As emotions ran high, Jadeja calmly tried to explain himself, saying he was simply going for the run. Carse, however, seemed unconvinced. At one point, he even extended his arm toward Jadeja—visibly agitated.
Ben Stokes quickly stepped in between the two to prevent further escalation, while the on-field umpires intervened to speak with Carse and Stokes in an attempt to defuse the situation.
Manjrekar Praises Jadeja, Questions Carse’s Conduct
Commentating live, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar weighed in:
“I thought Jadeja handled that superbly. He wasn’t trying to pick a fight. Clearly looking at the ball, just ran into the bowler.”
Manjrekar also called out Carse for appearing to put his arm around Jadeja’s neck:
“Made me wonder what Carse was up to. That was unnecessary. But thankfully, it ended without further drama.”
Test Match on a Knife’s Edge
Day 5 at Lord’s has been a pressure cooker. With India needing 135 runs and England chasing six wickets, every moment has counted. The day began with high drama—Jofra Archer bowled Rishabh Pant with a brutal delivery and gave him a send-off, while Stokes and Harry Brook chirped Nitish Reddy at the crease.
Despite a promising partnership between Jadeja and Reddy, England broke through just before lunch, with Chris Woakes removing Reddy for 13.
A Fierce Finish Looms at Lord’s
Both teams had posted identical first innings totals of 387, but England’s second-innings collapse (192 all out) gave India a golden opportunity. Still, England’s bowlers—led by Archer, Woakes, and Carse—have made a match of it.
