Jasprit Bumrah ‘Ready and Keen’ to Play Both Tests Against West Indies: Ajit Agarkar

Bumrah Ready to Play Both Tests vs West Indies

India’s pace spearhead and World No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah is set to make a full-fledged return to red-ball cricket, with chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirming that the star fast bowler is “ready and keen” to feature in both matches of the upcoming two-Test series against the West Indies in October 2025.

Bumrah Fully Fit and Raring to Go

Bumrah faced criticism earlier this year for featuring in just three matches during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy due to workload management. However, Agarkar assured fans that the 31-year-old is now fully fit and eager to spearhead India’s bowling attack in the home series.

“Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is ready and keen to play both Tests against West Indies,” Agarkar told reporters during the squad announcement press conference in Dubai.

Bumrah has been named in India’s 15-member squad for the two-match series starting October 2. In his 48-Test career so far, the right-arm quick has bagged 219 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls in the recent three-Test series against England, where he finished with 14 wickets.

Proven Record Against the West Indies

Bumrah has an impressive record against the Men in Maroon. In just two Tests against the West Indies, he has already taken 13 wickets, including a memorable hat-trick. His pace, accuracy, and ability to deliver breakthroughs with the new ball will be crucial for India in the upcoming series.

The Ahmedabad-born pacer will lead India’s fast-bowling unit, supported by Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna. Siraj, who was in exceptional form during the five-match series against England, took 23 wickets, including a career-best nine-wicket match haul at The Oval.

Squad and Supporting Cast

The BCCI’s selection committee has also announced the rest of the squad, led by Shubman Gill, with Ravindra Jadeja serving as vice-captain. Wicketkeepers Dhruv Jurel and Narayan Jagadeesan are part of the lineup, while Axar Patel makes a return to the red-ball setup.

Notably, Bengal pacer Akash Deep has been omitted from the Test squad but will feature in the Irani Cup for the Rest of India against Vidarbha from October 1 to 5 in Nagpur.

With Bumrah leading a potent pace attack and India aiming to start the new Test season on a high, all eyes will be on how the world’s No. 1 red-ball bowler performs against a West Indies side eager to challenge on Indian soil.
