South Africa’s 30-run victory over India in the Kolkata Test has earned high praise from star pacer Kagiso Rabada, who called the result “definitely in the top three” of the season’s triumphs. Despite missing the match due to a rib injury, Rabada said the team’s resilience and depth were on full display at Eden Gardens.
“We Always Find a Way to Win”—Rabada on SA’s Mindset
Speaking in a video released by Cricket South Africa, Rabada highlighted how the world Test champions continue to perform regardless of absences in the XI.
“No matter who sits out, we can still find a way to win. Temba has been crucial, but he hasn’t played every game. I haven’t played this one,” Rabada said.
Bavuma returned for this Test after missing the Pakistan tour, where South Africa drew the series 1-1. Yet, Rabada believes the team’s strength lies in trusting anyone who steps onto the field.
“Whoever gets out on the field, we believe they can do the job,” he added.
A Historic Win on Indian Soil
The three-day Test saw South Africa defend a modest 123-run target on a dry surface offering variable bounce and turn. The win — South Africa’s first Test victory in India in 15 years — also handed them a 1–0 unassailable lead in the series.
Rabada praised the collective effort across the match, especially skipper Temba Bavuma’s match-winning 55 in the second innings.
“We had a good start in the first innings with Aiden and Rickelton. Marco stood up, Boschi stood up… everyone contributed. That’s the hallmark of this team,” he said.
Rabada’s Availability for Guwahati Still Uncertain
Rabada underwent multiple scans ahead of the Kolkata Test, and it remains unclear whether he will be fit for the second Test in Guwahati from November 22–26.
“One of the Best Wins This Season”
Calling the Kolkata thriller one of the standout victories of South Africa’s season, Rabada emphasised the emotional intensity of the match.
“With the types of wins we’ve had this season, it’s hard to choose, but this one is definitely in the top three,” he said.
“That was typical Test cricket… the ebbs and flows. We were on the back foot and somehow finished on the front foot. It was nerve-wracking to watch, an emotional roller coaster, and I’m glad we ended up on the right side.”
