South Africa have been dealt another setback ahead of the second Test against India, with captain Temba Bavuma confirming that pace ace Kagiso Rabada will not be available.
Rib Injury Keeps Rabada Out Again
Rabada, who injured his ribs during a training session before the first Test, has still not recovered fully.
The injury had already forced him to miss the series opener in Kolkata, where South Africa sealed a hard-fought 30-run win.
“Kagiso has been ruled out of the second Test,” Bavuma said while addressing the media, adding that the team will decide on his replacement on the morning of the match.
Bavuma Assesses Guwahati Pitch Conditions
The second Test will be played in Guwahati — a venue hosting its first-ever Test match.
Bavuma offered his early assessment of the surface, calling it a typical sub-continental pitch that starts flat before gradually turning.
“This wicket looks fresher and more consistent than Kolkata. The first two days should be good for batting, and then spinners will come into play,” he explained.
Unfamiliar Territory for Both Teams
With Barsapara Stadium hosting its maiden Test, both teams will be stepping into uncharted conditions.
How the pitch behaves — especially after day two — is likely to influence selection calls and match strategy.
