The controversy surrounding the 2025 Asia Cup trophy has taken yet another twist. According to reports, Mohsin Naqvi, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief and PCB chairman, has moved the trophy from the ACC headquarters in Dubai to a different location in Abu Dhabi.
India won the Asia Cup after defeating arch-rivals Pakistan by 5 wickets in the final on September 28. Chasing 147, India secured the title with a composed performance, winning all seven of their matches in the tournament.
Trophy Not Handed to India After Final
The post-final ceremony turned controversial when the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, who then left the stadium with it. The trophy has since not been returned to India.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) formally wrote to Naqvi earlier this week, asking for the trophy to be sent to India. In response, Naqvi suggested hosting a ceremony in early November, requesting at least one Indian player to collect the trophy from him personally.
Trophy Quietly Shifted to Abu Dhabi
Fresh reports from ANI have confirmed that the Asia Cup trophy is no longer at the ACC headquarters in Dubai, where it was expected to remain. A BCCI official who visited the ACC office was informed that the trophy had already been moved to Abu Dhabi.
Earlier, Naqvi had set conditions for its return, stating India could collect it from him at the ACC office.
No Formal Resolution Yet
During an ACC meeting in late September, reports surfaced claiming that Naqvi had apologized to the BCCI. He later denied those reports, and no formal decision was made regarding the trophy handover.
The relocation of the trophy without prior notice has further strained ACC-BCCI relations and added fuel to an already heated off-field rivalry between India and Pakistan.
