MS Dhoni has finally broken his silence about his future with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). At a private event earlier this week, the iconic cricketer confirmed that he will remain closely tied to CSK beyond his playing days, hinting at a long-term relationship.
“Me and CSK, we are together. You know even for the next 15-20 years (crowd cheers). I hope they don’t think I’ll be playing for another 15-20 years! But yeah,” Dhoni said with a smile, assuring fans that his role with CSK will continue long after he steps away from playing.
Dhoni Reflects on the Team’s Recent Struggles
Although there were rumors that Dhoni might retire after IPL 2024, the 44-year-old has shown remarkable recovery from his knee injury. He resumed captaincy midway through IPL 2025 after Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined with an elbow injury. Under Dhoni’s leadership, CSK had a tough campaign, finishing last with just four wins from 14 matches.“It’s not about one year or two years. I will always be sitting in a yellow jersey. You know whether I’ll be playing or not in a while, but yeah, you know yourself,” Dhoni teased, leaving fans wondering if the 2025 season will indeed be his final one.
Looking Ahead: Gaikwad’s Return and CSK’s Plans
Reflecting on CSK’s challenging recent seasons, Dhoni emphasized the importance of learning from setbacks. “Yes, the last couple of years have not been good for us. We have not been up to the mark. But what is important is for you to see the learnings. Yes, you had a bad season. But what went wrong?” he said.
The return of Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had been sidelined due to injury, gives Dhoni confidence that CSK’s batting issues will be addressed. “Rutu will be coming back. He got injured. But he will be coming back. So, we are quite sorted now,” Dhoni shared. He also highlighted the upcoming December mini-auction as an opportunity to strengthen the squad further.
In his closing remarks, Dhoni once again spoke warmly of his bond with both CSK and Chennai: “The relationship over the years has grown. It helped me improve as a person. It helped me improve as a cricketer. CSK just happened. I think it’s good for Chennai. So, today it’s good for me also.”
