Narayan Jagadeesan played a steady knock of 50 not out off 95 balls, guiding India A to 116/1 in reply to Australia A’s massive first innings total of 532/6 declared on the second day of the first unofficial Test on Tuesday.
The rain-shortened day saw only 55 overs of play, and Jagadeesan was instrumental in India A’s recovery after the loss of Abhimanyu Easwaran (44 off 58 balls). Easwaran had shared a solid opening partnership of 88 runs with Jagadeesan before being bowled out by Liam Scott in the 22nd over.
At the close of play, Jagadeesan was unbeaten, having hit five fours and a six, while B Sai Sudharsan was also not out on 20. India A trailed by 416 runs in the first innings.
Australia A’s Dominance and Philippe’s Explosive Century
Earlier, Australia A had declared at 532/6 after a brilliant century by Josh Philippe (123* off 87 balls). Philippe’s explosive knock included four sixes and 18 boundaries, helping his team surpass 500 runs. His stand with Xavier Bartlett (39 off 24 balls) added 118 runs for the seventh wicket off just 62 balls.
On day two, Liam Scott fell for 81 (122 balls, 8x4s, 2x6s), caught by India A’s captain Shreyas Iyer off the bowling of Gurnoor Brar.
India A’s Bowling and Early Day Highlights
Harsh Dubey was the standout bowler for India A, picking up 3/141, while Brar contributed with 2/87. Prasidh Krishna went wicketless, conceding 86 runs in 16 overs.
On day one, Australia A’s Sam Konstas had earlier scored a rapid 104 (144 balls), supported by Campbell Kellaway (88) and Cooper Connolly (70), both scoring fifties.
