Former India all-rounder Abhishek Nayar believes young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal will emerge as India’s leading run-scorer in the upcoming second Test against the West Indies, highlighting his aggressive style and hunger for runs.
Nayar Confident in Jaiswal’s Big-Score Potential
India dominated the opening Test in Ahmedabad, defeating the Windies by an innings and 140 runs. While KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravindra Jadeja all notched centuries and captain Shubman Gill hit a fifty, Jaiswal contributed a modest 36 from 54 balls. Despite that, Nayar is backing the 23-year-old to bounce back with a big innings in Delhi.
“According to me, Yashasvi Jaiswal — because once he gets set, the pace at which he scores runs is exceptional. He’ll be hungry too because he missed out last time,” Nayar said on Star Sports’ Game Plan.
“He’s seen others scoring heavily, so he’ll want to convert his next opportunity into a big score. My money is on Jaiswal,” he added.
Approach Over Technique: Nayar’s Take on Rahul
Nayar also shared his thoughts on KL Rahul, who scored a century in the first Test. He believes Rahul’s experience in the IPL will help him adapt to conditions at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
“It’s not about technique but mindset. Rahul knows those conditions well and has scored over 500 runs in the IPL. He’ll look to convert that approach into big runs,” Nayar explained.
Rahul, who returned to the Test side after nine years, missed the chance to score a bigger hundred, but Nayar is hopeful he’ll build on his form. “He was disappointed to get out on 100, but when you’re in form, you must capitalize and keep scoring,” he said.
All Eyes on Jaiswal in Delhi
With the second Test set to begin on Friday, all eyes will be on Jaiswal as he looks to turn his promising starts into match-defining knocks. Nayar’s prediction adds to the anticipation surrounding one of India’s brightest young talents.
