Police in Manchester have arrested Pakistan cricketer Haider Ali following a rape allegation. In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) suspended him immediately. The 24-year-old batter, who was touring England with the Pakistan Shaheens, was taken into custody after someone filed a report on Monday. According to police, the alleged incident occurred on July 23, 2025, at a premises in Manchester.
Police Statement on the Case
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the arrest of a 24-year-old man in connection with the investigation.
“A report of a rape was made to police on Monday, 4 August 2025,” the police said. “It’s alleged that the incident occurred on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, at a premises in Manchester. Officers arrested a 24-year-old man, who has since been bailed while enquiries continue.”
However, under UK law, police typically do not name individuals at this stage of an investigation.
PCB’s Response
The PCB confirmed it is aware of the criminal investigation and has placed Haider Ali under provisional suspension.
“In line with our duty of care, we have ensured Haider Ali has access to appropriate legal support to protect his rights throughout this process,” the board stated.
Furthermore, the PCB emphasized its respect for the United Kingdom’s legal procedures.
“We acknowledge the importance of allowing the investigation to take its course. Therefore, we have suspended Haider Ali with immediate effect, pending the outcome of the inquiry.”
Haider Ali’s Background
Haider Ali made his international debut in 2020. Since then, he has represented Pakistan in two One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 35 T20 Internationals. Most recently, he joined the Pakistan Shaheens for a 15-day tour of England, which began on July 22.
In conclusion, the PCB stated that it may take further action under its Code of Conduct once the legal process concludes.
