The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that it is seeking new members for both the men’s and women’s selection committees. The positions are open as part of the committee’s annual restructuring, with the deadline for applications set for September 10.
Men’s Selection Committee
The BCCI plans to bring in two new selectors for the men’s selection committee, which is currently led by Ajit Agarkar. It’s been reported that the new members will represent the South and Central zones. While the BCCI has not confirmed which current selectors will be replaced, it is believed that former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha is set to take over from S. Sharath, who has completed his term in the South zone.
The identity of the new representative for the Central zone is still unclear, with SS Das and Subrato Banerjee, who both represented East zones during their playing careers, currently holding positions. The selectors from the West and North zones—Ajit Agarkar and Ajay Ratra—are expected to continue, as they were only recently inducted.
Eligibility for Men’s Selection Panel
To qualify for the men’s selection panel, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- At least seven Tests, 10 ODIs, or 20 First-Class matches.
- Must have retired from the game at least five years ago.
- Cannot have served on any BCCI Cricket Committee for more than five years cumulatively.
Women’s Selection Committee
In addition to the men’s panel, the BCCI is also seeking four new members for the women’s selection committee. Four of the current selectors—Neetu David (chairperson), Renu Margrate, Arati Vaidya, and Kalpana Venkatachar—have completed their terms. Shyama Dey Shaw, the fifth member, is eligible to continue.
Eligibility for Women’s Selection Panel
To be eligible for the women’s selection committee, applicants must:
- Have represented the Indian women’s national team.
- Have retired from the game at least five years ago.
- Not have been a member of any BCCI Cricket Committee for more than five years cumulatively.
As the deadline for applications approaches, these changes to the selection committees are expected to bring in fresh perspectives, especially with the potential addition of Ojha to the men’s panel.
