Prithvi Shaw has reportedly apologised to Musheer Khan for their on-field altercation during a warm-up match between Maharashtra and Mumbai at the MCA Stadium in Gahunje on Tuesday. The incident occurred shortly after Shaw’s dismissal, sparking a tense exchange between the two players.
Flashpoint: Shaw’s Dismissal Triggers Verbal Clash
Shaw, opening for Maharashtra, was in sublime touch, scoring a brilliant 181 off 220 balls before getting out to Musheer Khan. The right-hander top-edged a loopy delivery down the leg side and was caught at deep leg.
Video footage from the limited cameras on the ground showed Shaw swinging his bat aggressively toward a Mumbai player after the dismissal, though he did not make contact. Moments later, Shaw was seen confronting Musheer in a heated exchange before being pulled away by the umpires.
Mumbai’s Siddhesh Lad followed Shaw for a brief back-and-forth, further intensifying the situation.
Sledging and Emotions Run High
According to reports, Musheer had said something to Shaw after the dismissal, triggering the reaction. Shaw, who moved from Mumbai to Maharashtra in search of more game time, had reportedly been sledged throughout his innings.
“I’m Like an Elder Brother to You”
Later, Shaw realised his mistake and approached Musheer to apologise.
“Prithvi realised his mistake and approached Musheer and apologised to him. Prithvi told him, ‘I am like an elder brother to you.’ So all is well between the two,” a source told The Times of India.
The apology helped defuse the situation and ensured that tensions didn’t spill over off the field.
A Fiery Duo with History
Shaw, 25, has long been viewed as a talent of immense potential but has often found himself in the headlines for off-field controversies. Musheer, 20, one of India’s brightest young all-rounders, is also known for wearing his emotions on his sleeve.
Adding another layer to the story, Shaw and Musheer’s elder brother, Sarfaraz Khan, are childhood friends who have shared teams, dressing rooms, and schools. This connection made Shaw’s gesture of reconciliation even more meaningful.
Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy Squad 2025
Both Musheer and Sarfaraz are part of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad for the 2025 season:
Shardul Thakur (c), Ayush Mhatre, Akash Anand (wk), Hardik Tamore (wk), Siddhesh Lad, Ajinkya Rahane, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Tushar Deshpande, Sylvester D’Souza, Irfan Umair, Musheer Khan, Akhil Herwadkar, Royston Dias.
A Moment of Maturity for Shaw
While the incident could have easily escalated, Shaw’s decision to apologise shows a moment of personal maturity — something that may help him rebuild his image and strengthen his relationships within the domestic circuit.
