Rahane Stresses Batting Over Leadership for SKY Ahead of Asia Cup

Rahane SKY’s Batting Key for Asia Cup 2025

Ajinkya Rahane believes that Suryakumar Yadav’s batting will matter more than his captaincy in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. It will be Surya’s first time leading India in a multi-nation tournament, which also doubles as preparation for next year’s T20 World Cup.

SKY’s Form Curve

Surya has been India’s most consistent batter in T20Is over the last few years. But his last series against England was one to forget—just 28 runs in five matches, including two ducks. Critics questioned his form, but he bounced back strongly in IPL 2025.

Playing purely as a batter, Surya piled up 717 runs—the highest tally of his IPL career. He crossed 25 runs in every game, hit five half-centuries, and finished as the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer.

Rahane applauded Surya’s resilience. “He didn’t have a good series against England, but came back with five fifties in the IPL and finished second on the run charts. We all know he’s a dangerous batter. It’ll be interesting to see how he bats now, especially after the surgery,” Rahane said on his YouTube channel.

Proactive Captain, But Batting Is Key

Surya has also impressed as a leader. Since taking charge of India’s T20I side, he has guided them to 18 wins in 23 matches, with only four losses and one tie. His win percentage stands at a remarkable 78.26.

Rahane acknowledged his captaincy but insisted the bat will matter more this time. “As a captain, he’s been fantastic—proactive and effective. But in this Asia Cup, his batting will be the most important factor,” he added.
