Former India head coach Rahul Dravid has hailed Rohit Sharma as the driving force behind India’s T20 batting transformation, crediting the skipper’s fearless approach for redefining how the world views short-format batting.

Reflecting on India’s title-winning run at the 2024 T20 World Cup, Dravid revealed that Rohit’s decision to play with uncompromising intent changed everything. Late in his career, Rohit reinvented his batting — attacking from ball one — and inspired the team to adopt the same mindset.
“When I joined, Rohit and I spoke about evolving our approach,” Dravid said on Breakfast with Champions. “We wanted to play a more aggressive brand of cricket — that was clear from day one. And Rohit deserves huge credit for leading the team in that direction.”
India’s fearless batting blueprint paid off handsomely — they won the World Cup undefeated, setting the benchmark for ultra-attacking T20 cricket.

Dravid believes India have rewritten how modern T20 cricket is played, forcing other nations to catch up.
“I think India has literally changed what T20 cricket looks like,” Dravid said. “Our batting right now is off the charts — close to 300! Other teams are looking at India and realizing they need to match that level. Everyone’s now trying to play the way we do.”
He noted that India’s explosive batting — anchored by Rohit, Suryakumar Yadav, and others — has set a new global trend.

Though typically modest, Dravid admitted he takes pride in the transformation but insists the players deserve most of the credit.
“You can give them confidence and security, but they’re the ones who have to take those risks,” he said. “It has to be led by the captain and the players on the field. I may have guided the process, but they executed it.”
