India sealed the five-match T20I series 2-1 against Australia after the fifth and final game at The Gabba was abandoned due to heavy rain and lightning on Saturday.
Promising Start Cut Short
Before the weather intervened, India got off to a flying start thanks to openers Abhishek Sharma (23 off 13)* and Shubman Gill (29 off 16)*. The duo powered India to 52 for no loss in just 4.5 overs, showcasing aggressive intent from the first ball.
Missed Chances for Australia
Australia’s fielding woes continued as they dropped two straightforward chances to dismiss Abhishek early. Glenn Maxwell put down a simple catch in the first over, and Ben Dwarshuis spilled another in the fourth. Abhishek made them pay with a flat six over mid-wicket soon after.
Meanwhile, Gill was in sublime touch, taking on Dwarshuis for three crisp boundaries in the third over, keeping India’s momentum intact.
Weather Plays Spoilsport
Just as India’s openers were taking control, lightning forced the players off the field, followed by heavy rain that made further play impossible. With no resumption in sight, the umpires called the match off, handing India the series win.
India Clinch Series 2-1
The rain-affected finale meant India finished the series 2-1, having earlier won the third and fourth T20Is by five wickets and 48 runs respectively. The first T20I was also washed out, while Australia had taken the second game by four wickets.
This result came after Australia’s 2-1 ODI series win, ensuring both sides shared honors across formats.
