Rohit Sharma to Undergo Fitness Tests Ahead of ODI Return

Rohit Sharma Set for Fitness Tests at BCCI CoE

Senior India batter Rohit Sharma has reported to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for his routine pre-season fitness assessment. The 38-year-old, who has stepped away from T20Is and Test cricket, will undergo the Yo-Yo and Bronco Tests on Sunday, August 31, as part of the board’s standard evaluation process.

ODI Tour of Australia on Horizon

Rohit’s assessment comes as India gears up for the upcoming ODI tour of Australia in October, where they will play three matches on the 19th, 23rd, and 25th. While the squad is yet to be officially announced, Rohit is widely expected to retain his place in the ODI setup.

Improved Fitness Levels

Sources close to the team management revealed that Rohit has worked hard during the off-season, looking “leaner” and “more agile” compared to the last year. His fitness numbers from the assessments will be key, as India looks to field a refreshed and balanced squad for the challenges ahead.

Possible India A Tune-Up

There is also speculation that Rohit could feature in India A’s one-day series against Australia A in Kanpur (September 30, October 3, 5). That stint, if confirmed, would give him valuable match practice before the senior side’s Australia tour.

Other Stars at CoE

Rohit isn’t the only one undergoing checks. Shubman Gill, returning from a flu that kept him out of the Duleep Trophy, and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will also take the fitness tests. Mohammed Siraj has been put through his paces as well.

Big Season Ahead

With India set to open their Asia Cup 2025 campaign on September 9 against UAE in Dubai, and a packed schedule leading into the 2026 Champions Trophy, fitness assessments this week will play a major role in squad selection and workload planning. Rohit’s presence at the top of the order remains central to India’s plans during this transition phase.
