Rohit Sharma’s Bold Statement Amid ODI Retirement Rumors: “I Am…”

Rohit Sharma's Bold Statement on ODI Retirement Rumors

India’s ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, has retired from both T20I and Test cricket but is gearing up for his much-anticipated return to the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI series against Australia, starting October 19.

In a video shared by Rohit, he can be seen batting in the nets, giving fans a glimpse of his preparation ahead of the series. On Wednesday, he began his training in Mumbai, sharing photos of himself gearing up and running on the field. “I am here again, it feels really good,” he says in the video, hinting at his excitement to be back in action.

Retirement Speculations

At 38, Rohit is determined to continue playing until the 2027 ODI World Cup. However, there are reports suggesting that the upcoming tour of Australia might be his final series with the Indian team, sparking rumors about his retirement from the format.

Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket in May, just ahead of India’s ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 tour of England. Over his Test career from 2013 to 2025, he played 67 matches, scoring 4,301 runs with 12 centuries and 18 fifties.

A Legendary ODI Career

As an undisputed ODI great, Rohit Sharma has 11,168 runs from 273 matches and 265 innings at an average of 48.76. His 32 centuries and 58 fifties make him one of India’s most prolific ODI players, ranking as the fourth-highest run-scorer in India’s history.

Rohit also boasts a stellar record in Australia, with 1,328 runs in 30 matches, averaging 53.12, and a strike rate of over 90. His five centuries and four fifties in Australia include his highest score of 171*.

A Shared Milestone with Virat Kohli

The tour of Australia could also mark the last series for former Indian captain Virat Kohli, who, like Rohit, has announced his retirement from T20I and Test cricket.
