Srikkanth Defends Samson Against Gambhir’s Selection Moves

Srikkanth Slams Gambhir Over Sanju Samson Role

Former India captain Kris Srikkanth has once again voiced his displeasure over Gautam Gambhir’s handling of Sanju Samson, taking a sharp and sarcastic dig at the new head coach. Weeks after Gambhir’s warning to avoid targeting players or questioning team selection, Srikkanth fired back, calling out the “unfair” treatment of the wicketkeeper-batter.

Despite Samson’s consistent form in T20Is and three centuries as an opener since July 2024, his position has remained uncertain. During the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE, Samson was replaced by Shubman Gill at the top order and shuffled across positions in the middle-order, even going without a chance to bat in one match despite India losing six wickets.

“Unlucky Samson Keeps Getting Moved Around”

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth didn’t mince words:

“The most unlucky guy is Sanju Samson. He was scoring centuries as an opener, but now they send him everywhere — from No. 3 to No. 8. If given a chance, they might even send him at No. 11! He has no option but to stay tight-lipped and bat wherever they ask.”

Srikkanth’s sarcasm reflected widespread frustration among fans who believe Samson has been denied stability despite proving himself repeatedly.

A Silver Lining Amid the Chaos

Srikkanth, however, found a positive takeaway — Samson’s strong performance at No. 5 during the Asia Cup.

“The only good thing is he did well at No. 5 in the Asia Cup. It’s a good sign because Sanju is now the automatic first-choice wicketkeeper for the T20 World Cup.”

Samson’s Steady Rise Despite Odds

While criticism over team management continues, Samson’s adaptability and composure have earned him admiration. As the T20 World Cup approaches, all eyes will be on whether Gambhir finally gives the Kerala star the role — and respect — he deserves.
