Raina Backs KL Rahul For T20I Comeback

Former CSK star Suresh Raina has backed KL Rahul to make a comeback to India’s T20I team. Rahul, once a key member of the squad, last played T20Is in the 2022 World Cup. Despite his strong performances in Tests and ODIs, he has been overlooked in T20Is, with selectors opting for younger players like Abhishek Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Shubman Gill.

Proven T20 Record

KL Rahul has played 72 T20Is, scoring 2,265 runs at an average of 37.75 with a strike rate of 139.13. His record includes two centuries and 22 fifties, making him one of the few Indians to score hundreds across all three formats.

Raina On Rahul’s Temperament

“He scored the runs. KL Rahul has temperament and game awareness. T20 is not just about hitting shots. He has worked a lot, and I think he will come back,” Raina said on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel.

T20 World Cup On His Mind

Rahul excelled in IPL 2025 for Delhi Capitals, scoring 539 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of 149.72. Batting across the order, he showed his versatility.

Rahul has acknowledged that a T20I return and the World Cup are goals, but he prefers focusing on the present.

“I want to get back in the T20I team, and the World Cup is in my mind, but for now, I’m just enjoying my game,” he said.
