Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav offered his thoughts on India’s T20 World Cup group, slipping in a cheeky reference to the tense India–Pakistan meetings during the Asia Cup 2025. The two sides met three times in the UAE, and each game carried visible tension—right from the missing handshake at the toss to the lack of post-match greetings. India swept all three matches, including a gripping finale.
Pakistan Assigned Sri Lanka as Neutral Host
For the upcoming T20 World Cup, all of Pakistan’s group-stage fixtures will be held in Sri Lanka. This arrangement is part of a broader agreement that ensures India and Pakistan compete at neutral venues in multinational events.
Surya’s Playful Jab at Asia Cup Atmosphere
Speaking at the schedule launch event, Suryakumar highlighted India’s comfortable set of venues—Mumbai, Delhi, and Ahmedabad—but focused more on the February 15 showdown against Pakistan in Colombo.
He said:
“The group looks good. Pretty decent. We’re playing at good venues—Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad. And then comes the game on the 15th (vs Pakistan). We faced them recently and had a good time. Everything was completely focused on cricket and nothing else, as you must have seen. It’ll be a good game. The boys are always excited for India–Pakistan matches.”
His comment about “everything being focused on cricket” came across as a subtle reminder of how tense the Asia Cup encounters were, despite the absence of off-field courtesy traditions.
India Yet to Receive the Asia Cup Trophy
India are still waiting to physically collect the Asia Cup title. Suryakumar and the team had chosen not to accept the trophy from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi—who also heads the PCB and serves as a minister in Pakistan. Naqvi’s strong anti-India statements in the past prompted the Indian team to decline the handover. Discussions between the BCCI and ACC regarding the trophy presentation are ongoing.
