Vaibhav Suryavanshi Creates History, Becomes Youngest Cricketer to Smash a SMAT Century

14-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Hits Historic SMAT Ton

Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name in the record books on Tuesday (December 2), becoming the youngest player ever to score a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The 14-year-old Bihar opener produced a sensational knock against Maharashtra at Eden Gardens, completing his maiden T20 hundred in just 58 balls.

A Hundred at Just 14 Years and 250 Days

Opening the innings for Bihar, Suryavanshi displayed fearless stroke play, smashing 7 fours and 7 sixes on his way to a brilliant 108* off 60 balls. He reached the landmark in style, hitting a six off the first ball of the 20th over bowled by Arshin Kulkarni.

His feat breaks the long-standing record held by Maharashtra’s Vijay Zol, who scored a SMAT century at 18 years and 118 days in 2013. Suryavanshi now sits atop the list of youngest centurions in the tournament’s history.

Suryavanshi stayed unbeaten till the end, guiding Bihar to a competitive total of 176/3. He stitched a valuable 75-run partnership with Ayush Loharuka, who remained not out on 25 from 17 balls.

The promising youngster, who represents Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, will also feature for India in the upcoming U19 Asia Cup in Dubai starting December 12.

For Maharashtra, Arshin Kulkarni, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, and Vicky Ostwal picked up a wicket each.

Tough Start to the Tournament Before Historic Breakthrough

Despite being Bihar’s vice-captain in SMAT 2025, Suryavanshi had a quiet start to the season. His first three innings in Elite Group B matches fetched scores of 14 (vs Chandigarh), 13 (vs Madhya Pradesh), and 5 (vs Jammu & Kashmir). But on December 2, he delivered a knock that will be remembered for years.
