Yashasvi Jaiswal, one of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket, has shown incredible promise but is currently restricted to playing just one format for the national team. Despite his outstanding performances, he has yet to fully realize his potential in all three formats.
The Indian T20I squad is filled with powerful hitters, and the competition for spots has created a “problem of plenty.” With so much talent available, even some of the best performers like Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer have been left out. This was clearly evident in the ongoing Asia Cup, where both players, despite their recent form, did not make the cut for the tournament.
Aakash Chopra Calls It “Injustice”
Former cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra expressed his disappointment over Jaiswal’s limited exposure in international cricket. On his YouTube channel, Chopra called it “almost injustice” for Jaiswal to be playing in only one format, given his immense potential. The 23-year-old has been a standout performer in T20Is, amassing 723 runs in 23 matches at a remarkable strike rate of 164.31, which includes a century and five fifties. Despite India’s 48 T20I matches since Jaiswal’s debut, he has been featured in less than half of them.
Chopra’s Prediction for Jaiswal’s Future
Chopra believes that Jaiswal is a player capable of excelling in all formats. He sees him as a “three-format player” and is confident that Jaiswal will soon get his chance to shine. “He will play both Tests against the West Indies and score runs because he’s that kind of player,” Chopra said. He also predicts that Jaiswal will be included in India’s upcoming three-match ODI series in Australia.
However, Chopra acknowledges that it may take some time before Jaiswal breaks into the T20I squad. “I don’t think he will be part of the 15-man squad anytime soon for T20Is, but before the World Cup next year, I’m sure he will find a place in the 15,” he said. Chopra’s faith in Jaiswal’s ability is unwavering, calling him a “phenomenal player” with the potential to play all three formats for India.
The World Cup Hope
Chopra believes that Jaiswal, alongside Shreyas Iyer, will be part of India’s World Cup squad. He firmly believes that Jaiswal’s time will come soon, and he’ll be able to showcase his talent in all formats. “He’s too good a player to miss out,” Chopra added, expressing his hopes for Jaiswal’s future in Indian cricket.
